The First Graduates From The Wildlife Tourism College

Today, Friday 28th February, marks a historic milestone for the Wildlife Tourism College as their first-ever cohort of students graduated.

During the inaugural graduation ceremony 35 students graduated from courses in tour guiding & operations, food and beverage, housekeeping and laundry operations, and catering and hotel supervision. Of those graduating 40% were female.

For NawiriGroup we particularly want to extend our congratulations to the seven graduates that we sponsored during their studies.

  • Four of these studied to become safari guides. The Tour Guiding course builds on the award winning program at the Koiyaki Guiding School that produced high calibre graduates who have made an impact on the standards of nature guiding in Kenya. The program covers natural history, tourism history, geography, communication skills, ICT and cultures of Kenya. In addition, first aid, driving, and Kenya Professional Safari Guides Association (KPSGA) Bronze certification are offered in the Course. The Course is TVET accredited

  • Two studied Food and Beverage Sales and Service, a course that equips them with the knowledge, skills and attitudes required to perform as a cook and a waiter/waitress including the preparation, production and service of food and drinks within the hospitality industry.

  • One studied Catering and Hotel Supervision equipping them to perform as a front office assistant /receptionist/ PR officer

We are delighted to hear that five of our students have already secured jobs within the industry.

The Wildlife Tourism College of Maasai Mara stands as an educational initiative that blends local needs with global conservation objectives. The college provides high-caliber certificate and diploma progarms for local students, as well as interactive and cross-cultural programs for international students. It acts as a hub for researchers in the heart of one of the most important wildlife areas in the world.

Nawiri Group, a key financial supporter, played an important role in realising this vision alongside Basecamp Explorer Foundation and other partners. The collaboration has been widely recognised as a model for integrating conservation, education, and the creation of opportunities for local people. With its focus on creating employment and fostering environmental stewardship, the college represents a new approach to tackling intertwined ecological and social challenges.
