100 New Desks for Kisaba Primary School

On Friday 28th February staff from our Rubondo Island Camp in Tanzania visited Kisaba primary school, located on an island to the east of the camp, to formally hand over 100 new desks.

The team received a warm welcome from the students and teachers. They took the opportunity to talk to the children about the importance of conservation and nature can become an asset for those who live closest to it. The team were able to present the top performing students from standard one to standard seven with a small gift to commend them for their hard work.

This year to date we’ve supported more than 2,100 students from schools within the Ruaha Ecosystem with the provision of 700 desks from our Impact at Scale funding. In addition we are expecting to donate 562 Desks from the Asilia Giving programme, supporting 1,686 students in the Serengeti, Rubondo & Ngorongoro areas.

Improving the access to and quality of education in rural areas is a central part of our approach to impact. Education provides individuals with skills and opportunities, opening doors to diverse livelihoods. This helps communities expand their potential, building skills and resilience. Among the many challenges rural schools face, class sizes in these areas often surpass the national standard. This overcrowding leads to a scarcity of essential resources, including desks, forcing many students to sit on the floor during lessons making it challenging to engage fully with learning.

The provision of desks enhances individual learning experiences and also allows teachers to manage classrooms and deliver the curriculum more effectively. Improving the learning environment is step toward improving the quality of education and the educational outcomes for students in these rural communities.
